Nokia has introduced six smartphones. Introduces new model lines

<!—->

Six new Nokia smartphones have been introduced by HMD Global, which holds a license for the production of Finnish-branded smartphones. The six innovations represent a remarkable shift for the Nokia brand and are probably the biggest change in the brand in the last few years. But not because the phones bring revolutionary technology: all six innovations belong to the lower or maximally middle class, where we certainly cannot expect revolutionary technology.

However, the news falls into three new model lines. Until now, Nokia simply marked its smartphones with a number (the higher, the better the model), with the marking after the dot indicating the generation of the model. Now there are the C, G and X model lines instead. These retain Nokia’s traditional strength in the form of a fairly clean Android system and guaranteed system updates, adding a few new features and a certain focus for each model line.

The C-Series phones will be the most affordable, and Nokia boasts good battery life and promises excellent durability, as evidenced by the fact that the phones are said to be subjected to more rigorous and intensive tests than are common in the industry.

One step higher is the G-Series devices, which promise really huge battery life (up to 3 days) and are guaranteed three years of system security updates and two years of OS updates to the new version.

And at the top of the new hierarchy is the X series, which is supposed to bring advanced features and its specialty will be, in addition to three years of security updates, also three years of OS updates as such. Devices with the current Android 11 could theoretically reach Android 14 in the future.

In these three model lines, Nokia has always introduced two models. The news is called C10 and C20, G10 and G20 and X10 and X20. This always leaves room in the given series for more equipped smartphones, but last year we saw that Nokia does not fit into the category of high-end phones. After being burned with the photographic 9 PureView and the luxurious 8 Sirocco, the company did not head to the upper floors. The company last introduced the flag model two years ago.

5G and a proper battery

The most equipped X10 and X20 models will surprise with the support of 5G networks, which should be one of the main attractions for users. Nokia has not yet announced the prices, however, due to additional equipment and 5G, we estimate that these should be smartphones at a price level of around six to seven thousand crowns. Both devices are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G processor, in both cases the user gets a 6.67-inch display with a resolution
2,400 x 1,080 pixels (it is an IPS panel) and a battery with a solid capacity of 4,470 mAh.

Differences in equipment can be found mainly in the set of cameras: there are four and, as is often the case with more affordable phones, they are unnecessary, the phone would only need a main sensor. It has a resolution of 48 megapixels for the X10 type and 64 megapixels for the X20. In both cases, Nokia boasts Zeiss optics.

These sensors then always complement the five-megapixel wide-angle camera and the two-megapixel macro sensor and others with the same resolution for depth of field. Both models will also differ in memory, the X10 has 4 or 6 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of user memory, the X20 will offer 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of memory. The microSD card slot is not missing, the phones are two-shot.

Nokia boasts that it has removed the charger and headphones from the package, allegedly because of the environment. According to the company, the chargers generate excess electrical waste, and in the EU, users discarded 12,000 tons in 2019 (as it is related to whether or not the charger is in the package, Nokia does not say). Users will be able to purchase the charger on the manufacturer’s website, with the proceeds from such sales going to the account of the charity Clear Rivers, which works to remove plastic waste from international waterways. The ecological focus of the novelties is also to be supported by the compostable protective cover of the phone supplied as standard in the package.

Price and price again

Other novelties already show a clear bet on a low price and an effort to reach the widest possible audience. The G20 and G10 models again differ only in detail, the basis of the equipment is a 6.5-inch display with HD + resolution and a battery with a capacity of 5,050 mAh, thanks to which Nokia promises up to three days. A better model is powered by a MediaTek G35 processor, a weaker MediaTek G25. The Nokia G20 again has four camera lenses, the set-up is the same as for the X10 model: 48 megapixels for the main camera, 5 for the wide-angle camera and two for the macro and bokeh lenses.

The G10 has poorer photo equipment: the main sensor has a resolution of 13 megapixels, and there are only two two-megapixel sensors (macro and bohek). In both cases, the front cameras have a resolution of 8 megapixels. The Nokia G10 will be sold with 3 or 4 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of internal memory, the G20 will have 4 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of user memory. The charger is not missing in the package this time.

The C-Series models go even less with equipment. The Nokia C10 has a Unisoc SC7331e processor and 1 or 2 GB of RAM (and 16 or 32 GB of the user’s one), the C20 type got the SC9863a chipset and the same “load” of memory. That’s why Android 11 GO phones have a lighter and less hardware-intensive version of the system (that’s why Nokia doesn’t promise updates). The displays have 6.5 inches and HD + resolution, the cameras are 5 megapixels. Both types have only one sensor at the front and one at the rear. The batteries have a capacity of 3,000 mAh and use an older microUSB connector for charging (the charger is not included in the package).

Nokia will launch the news in interesting colors, the exact launch date and prices are not yet known. Recently, the delay in launching the introduced Nokia devices has been considerable, perhaps this time we will see news in the near future.
