“Nokia” announces the production of the first smartphone with the slogan “Made in Egypt”

Last October, Samsung Electronics Egypt launched the first batch of locally manufactured Samsung phones at the company’s plant in Beni Suef Governorate, bearing the slogan “Made in Egypt”. Larger quantities of phones are subsequently offered in the Egyptian market to meet the company’s demand for phones.

The Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), affiliated to the Ministry of Communications, and the Chinese electronics company OPPO, signed a memorandum of understanding last September; Establish a mobile phone factory in Egypt, with the production capacity of 4.5 million units per year and investment of about 30 million US dollars, to join 10 other company-owned factories around the world and make so that this factory is a regional hub for the company to produce and export to Arab and African markets.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has managed to attract more foreign direct investment in all sectors, especially in the manufacturing of mobile phones, and to benefit from the Egyptian market as a regional hub for manufacturing, through which markets can be accessed African and Arab Procedures for the establishment of new factories, with an investment of 75 million dollars, with a production capacity of 16 million mobile devices per year, providing 3,200 job opportunities.

Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, attended the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between HMD and Etisalat for Advanced Industries, EAI, in Egypt last August, with the aim of producing one million mobile devices of different models, between feature phones and smart phones, and this during the current year with the doubling of production in the next period.

The agreement was signed by Tamer El-Gamal, General Manager of HMD Company in Egypt, and Ahmed Abu Auf, Managing Director of Etisalat for Advanced Industries (EAI). In the presence of Alain Lejeune, Head of Operations at HMD Global OY, which owns the Nokia brand, Won Shang, Executive Vice President, Products, Eng. Liaison to cutting-edge industries EAI and HMD.
