Some noise from your refrigerator is completely normal, but there are still a few things you should be aware of if your refrigerator is making noise.
Helene Fredheim, assistant sales manager for home appliances at Elkjøp Norge, tells DinSide that refrigerators generally make more noise today than they used to.
— The reason for this is that they’ve moved away from the coolant used in older fridges, and the coolant used in modern fridges works at a higher pressure, she says.
You can get sick
That’s why it lasts
The refrigerator is on all day and is therefore a normal part of the operation of the appliance as it has to go through several cycles.
– The thing that sometimes lasts is, for example, the compressor turning on to pump refrigerant through the system to provide cooling, explains Monica Iren Fasting of Nordic PR and Head of Communications at Power.
– Noises also occur from the coolant, or in the cooling process when the coolant alternates between liquid and gaseous form, Fasting adds.
Be careful with this
Small knocks, rattles, gurgles, gurgles and hums are typical for any refrigerator.
– What you should pay attention to, however, is whether sounds change and other problems arise at the same time, explains Fredheim in Elkjøp Norge.
Do this
If your refrigerator makes noises you’re not used to hearing or seems warmer outside, check to see if it might need servicing.
– You can fix some of the sounds by moving things around the fridge that hit when the fridge vibrates, explains Fasting and continues:
– Move it a little further away from the wall or kitchen counter and make sure the fridge is level.
It can make the pain worse
Food residues can make noise
Food debris can also be a reason why the refrigerator makes noise.
– Dust and food debris can also cause the condenser fan and compressor to become clogged, so regular maintenance is important, advises Fredheim.
Fredheim also explains that it’s important to make sure the door fits tightly and closes properly, to prevent the compressor from putting too much effort into maintaining an even temperature.
