Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Anwar Abbas asked the government to control the National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) after the numerous financial aids for the renovation of the houses of the PDIP cadres distributed by the Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo.
The vice president of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) said zakat, infaq and alms should be distributed to people in need. He thought it inappropriate if aid were distributed to party cadres.
“I propose that the government inspect and control Baznas from the central to the regional level because there are fears that, as the words of a wise man, ‘Where there is sugar, there are ants’, it is not impossible that Baznas funds have been misused,” Anwar said in a written statement on Saturday (12/31).
Anwar regretted handing over the house renovation assistance to the PDIP cadres. He also regretted the actions of Baznas, Ganjar and those who suggested this assistance.
According to him, Baznas’ funds were not channeled to those in need. Therefore, he believes that there should be transparency in Baznas’ handling of funds.
“This is important to make sure that there is no slander in the midst of society so that Baznas can really be trusted by the community as an institution that collects and manages zakat, infaq and alms funds,” he said.
Earlier, netizens criticized Ganjar for distributing aid to PDIP cadres using Baznas funds. On Ganjar’s social media account, the delivery of a symbolic aid plaque worth Rp can be seen. 20 million with the Baznas logo.
Central Java chief Baznas Ahmad Daroji said his party did not distribute special assistance to members of some parties. He said Baznas distributed aid to people in need.
“So, Baznas is given to the poor. Don’t they ask you which party you belong to? No. Those asked are they poor or not. Home care is because he is poor and cannot repair his house. So, Indonesians who not have [afiliasi] whose party? But those poor people are PDIP members,” Daroji said when he was contacted CNNIndonesia.comFriday (30/12).
Central Java governor Ganjar Pranowo has not yet responded to the confirmation CNNINdonesia.com relating to assistance to residents who are cadres of the PDIP using this and Baznas.
