The Fire Department of Nogales, SonoraGustavo L. Manríquez” has started for the fourth consecutive year the sale of commemorative t-shirts to raise awareness about the breast cancer and raise funds to support women fighting this disease.
The initiative, which has gained momentum since its launch four years ago, has become a symbol of solidarity in the community.
Perla Valencia, secretary of the Fire Department, shared that this year’s funds will go to four women who are currently battling this disease.
This is the fourth time we have sold t-shirts to help people who are suffering from this disease. All the money earned from the sale goes to the families who are currently suffering from the problem,” shared Perla Valencia, secretary of the Fire Department.
This year, the sale began in advance of October, known as pink month, with the aim of raising as much money as possible to support four women. The shirts are available at station 1 for a contribution of 200 pesos.
These are the three colors we have for the public, pink, white and black, we have them in long sleeves and short sleeves, we already have them available at the Centro station, from 8 am to 5 pm you can come pick them up, for 200 pesos and 220, explained Valencia.
Berenice Parra is one of the women who benefited from this initiative in 2023. She commented that financial support is essential in situations such as cancer, not only for the purchase of medicines, but also for vitamins, healthy food, transportation and other expenses.
It is difficult, because this is very sudden, I have always had medical check-ups every year and from one year to the next I already had cancer, there we learned that everything in time has a solution, because thank God I am fine, in a period of two to three months my tumor grew, they detected it at 2 cm and they removed it at 5 cm, nobody expects to go through this, the word cancer is really scary, if we think about it you say, cancer is death, but for me, it was, cancer is life, that is when I began to live, so you have to live, concluded Berenice Parra, breast cancer patient.
