-Cast?
– I teach at the Musikene, the Higher Music Center of the Basque Country. Modern Piano. I have to travel to Donosti once a month and I am there for three days.
–Afterwards, to Avilés.
“Afterwards, exactly.”
– How do you feel about being named a herald of the Bollo festivities?
– I feel very honored and with great joy that the City Council has thought of me to do it.
“And what will he do it about?”
-Rather than point out my relationship with the party, what I intend to talk about is my relationship with Avilés. I love that combination of Asturian traditions with this present of mine.
– Because you are from Oviedo.
– But Avilés is the city in which I have studied, the one that gave me the first opportunities.
– They also announce a concert.
–We will be Gabriel Menéndez, who is a trumpet player, and myself. The two, on the tables of the Palacio Valdés theater. We are going to present three musical interventions signed by Gonzalo Casielles who, as you know, died a few weeks ago.
–Casielles was the teacher of many.
–Of course, of those we studied at the Conservatory of Avilés. The idea is to make a fun concert. After us, the choir of the Asturian Center goes and, later, I play by myself.
–You have been lucky: you are only going to read in front of the theater audience and not in the entire Plaza de España.
– (laughs). Theaters and auditoriums are better for me. We must highlight the City Council’s efforts to maintain the Bollo festivities, albeit with another format. The city will have parties, although they will not be the usual ones.
-It’s been a while when your latest album has been flying well.
-I’m very grateful. And more in these times. Officially, “The Butterfly Effect” came out a week before the lockdown was decreed. Critics and music lovers have responded very well to the work.
-It seems centuries ago, but the confinement had been smelling. No?
-Yes Yes. We had a presentation in Oviedo, we thought about suspending it. The fear was noticeable from the league.
–The album was uploaded to Spotify. Was Spotify Made for Classical Music?
–My two albums are there. Spotify is one more instrument and as such it must be used. This year, in addition, he gave a lot of play. It is true that classical musicians are more hidden, but you just have to start looking for us.
– The musicians, the artists, spent the confinement giving their works to the networks. Back to normal?
– I hope so, but we cannot ignore what is evident: in general, in Spain an effort has been made to program shows. It is also true that there were many postponements, many suspensions. I talk to colleagues from outside and they envy us: we are the only ones who can play; with limitations, with many restrictions, but we play. That is to be appreciated. This does not mean, of course, that we want to go back to work more, as before.
