Noctua Delays Launch of Next Generation 140mm Fan Due to Critical Deformation Risk – Launch Window Set for 2024

Noctua has once again delayed the launch of what they call the next generation 140 millimeter fan. This as the current prototype risks suffering from critical deformation according to Noctua themselves

Anyone who has been waiting for the next generation 140 millimeter fan from Noctua has been waiting for up to nine years now. The fan is still on the way but the launch has now been delayed after Noctua ran into a potentially catastrophic problem late in the fan’s testing stage.

The frame for this follow-up to the NF-A14 fan uses the material Sterrox LCP. Something it was hoped would reduce the risks of deformation. However, Noctua’s tests have shown that while the material makes the frame less likely to buckle and change shape under pressure, there is still a risk of that.

This would not usually be a major problem. However, the distance between the top of the fan blades and the actual frame of these fans is only 0.7 millimeters. A difference of a few tenths of a millimeter would not be a problem with regular fans. However, it can cause problems when such small margins are involved and the manufacturer does not want to take the risk of starting mass production of the new fan right now.

The fan now has a launch window in the second quarter of 2024. Whether the fan will be worth the long wait that has been extended several times remains to be seen. However, it is clear that Noctua takes its product development very seriously.
