Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are undoubtedly the future of men’s tennis: The Spaniard and the Italian shared the four Grand Slams of the 2024 calendar year between themselves and fought a thrilling battle in the final of the ATP tournament in Beijing a few days ago – with the better one End for Alcaraz.
The Swede Mats Wilander, himself a six-time Grand Slam winner, then went on to offer superlatives. “I hope that Roger, Novak and Rafa don’t listen, but when Sinner and Alcaraz do their best, there is no doubt that no one has ever played better tennis,” said the 60-year-old at Eurosport. “They are following in the footsteps of the big three in terms of level.”
In a direct comparison, Alcaraz currently leads 6-4 against Sinner; the two have regularly played high-class matches in recent years. “Carlos and Jannik put on an entertaining show in Beijing. For me, it’s on a par with the absolute best sporting events of all time. And that happens every time they play,” emphasized Wilander. “They provide excitement, they provide entertainment.”
