You will be able to buy digital clothes for your avatar in the metaverse. The arrival of this shop was discreetly confirmed June 17, 2022 by Meta (the parent company of Facebook). Facebook, Instagram and Messenger users will be able to buy in this future virtual store looks from luxury brands to dress up their avatar.
“Welcome to the Metaverse, Balenciaga”
It’s in a ten minute video posting on Instagram that Internet users were able to have a first glimpse of this “Avatars Store” of the metaverse. Mark Zuckerberg invited himself to the account of Eva Chen, the director of Instagram’s fashion partnerships, to test several outfits on his own avatar. ” Welcome to the metaverse, Balenciaga, Prada and Tom Browne “, wrote in the caption of this video Eva Chen.
For the moment, only the presence of these few very luxurious brands is announced in this virtual store. Outfits featured include a motorcycle suit, a set of a sweatshirt and jeans, or fancier suits. Other brands should soon be added to Balenciaga, Prada and Tom Browne, raises The Verge.
This is not the first time that luxury clothing brands have made a foray into the digital sphere. Thus, Balenciaga had already imagined accessories and clothing for the Fortnite store, in September 2021. Players can dress up their characters in sweatshirts or backpacks from the Spanish-born fashion brand.
Mark Zuckeberg et Eva Chen did not specify when exactly this virtual store will be launched or how users will acquire these outfits. The amount to be paid to dress the avatars in these luxury virtual clothes is also not known.
