Yousafzai has been campaigning for women’s and children’s rights for many years. As an 11-year-old, she wrote under a pseudonym about the Taliban’s takeover of power in Pakistan’s Swat Valley in 2007. Since then, girls have been excluded from education there and countless other human rights have been violated.
Her indictment of the Taliban regime made Yousafzai the target of a targeted attack at the age of 15. Taliban fighters had broken into the school bus on its way to her home and shot her in the head and neck. The activist miraculously survived the deadly attack.
After her recovery, she moved with her family to the British city of Birmingham, where she tied the knot with her partner yesterday. Yousafzai only gave her husband his first name, but it would be Asser Malik, the manager of the Pakistan Center for Cricket Players.
