Nobel 2020. Awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics. Who won?

Sir Roger Penrose is one of the world’s greatest physicists and mathematicians. He became famous for the first time when he and Stephen Hawking proved the singularity theorem in general relativity. The scientist was rewarded for discovering that the formation of black holes is a solid prediction of general relativity.

Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez received the award for “for the discovery of a supermassive compact object at the center of our galaxy”.

Last year, the Nobel Prize Laureates in Physics were James Peebles, Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz. Scientists were recognized for theoretical discoveries in the field of cosmology. As reported, their discoveries changed the concept of the universe forever.

The more often a scientist is quoted by others, the more important his research becomes. When selecting the winner, Nobel committees also take into account other factors, including the breakthrough of the discovery and its impact on human development.

Nominations for the Nobel Prize (the value of which in each field is CZK 10 million – about PLN 4 million 300 thousand) remain secret for 50 years.
