Noah Syndergaard and Luis Severino have similarities in their situation. Both are # 2 launchers behind a star, both are launching in New York City and both are recovering from a Tommy John type operation.
Worse yet: Both have suffered setbacks this year, which delayed their arrival until the end of the season.
It will be recalled that Syndergaard had a setback in the middle of the year and recently contracted the virus. He was therefore placed on the sidelines by the Mets.
But with two weeks to go, it’s one to midnight to return to 2021. That’s why the Mets might decide, now that he’s ready to pitch, not to send him into the minors (like that. been the case twice this year) and have him pitch for the first time in MLB since 2019 as early as this week.
We know Thor will be in the Mets pen and the club are still trying to decide what will be best for him.
Currently, only the AAA Mets club remains in action in the minors.
This brings us to Luis Severino. The pitcher hasn’t pitched for a month and a half after suffering a setback in his process in the minors.
But as time is running out, the Yankees are considering doing it like the Mets and graduating in the pen quickly.
