Noah Schapp confirms that Will de Stranger Things is gay

Stranger Things actor Noah Schnapp has confirmed in an interview that his character Will Byers is gay and has a crush on Mike.

Speaking to Variety, the actor said that “it’s pretty clear this season that Will has feelings for Mike,” explaining that signs of Will’s sexuality “have always been there.”

“Obviously, it was hinted at in the first season,” Schnapp said, “it was always there, but you never really knew if he was growing up more slowly than his friends. Now that he’s gotten older, they’ve made it very real and obvious.”

Fans have been theorizing about Will’s sexuality for some time, with season four revealing more hints that the character could be queer.

Several fans have pointed to a scene where he opens up to his friends during a car ride as the ultimate indicator of his homosexuality.

In the scene, Mike admits his fears that Eleven doesn’t love him anymore, to which Will replies, “When you’re different, sometimes you feel like a mistake. But you make him feel like he’s not a mistake at all. Like It was better for being different and that gives him the courage to keep fighting”.

It’s one of the Schnapp’s favorites of the season. She said that she “was crying” during the production of the scene, but noted that the final cut was more subtle than she had anticipated.

“I liked how they edited it together,” he said, “The day was so much fun. I love playing with Will. This scene was really important to him, because it really solidified the truth, that he loves his best friend and doesn’t know how to tell him. “

In a previous interview, Millie Bobby Brown addressed the speculation, saying “it’s okay not to know.”

“I think the best thing about Will’s character is that he’s a human being going through his own personal demons and problems,” he told Variety. There’s nothing wrong with not knowing. And it’s okay not to label things.”

Similar speculation arose after the premiere of the third season, and Schnapp addressed it to The Hollywood Reporter, saying, “Nothing is set in stone. It kind of depends on the audience, and I think the Duffers did it on purpose.”
