Noah Lyles competes with covid in the 200-meter final

The United States Track and Field Federation confirmed on Thursday, after the final of the 200-meter race, that its sprinter Noah Lyles, who finished third and won the bronze medal, competed with Covid-19.

“We can confirm that Noah Lyles tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, August 6. In response, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and USATF quickly put in place all necessary protocols to prioritize his health, the well-being of our team, and the safety of our fellow competitors,” the statement said.

“Our primary commitment is to ensure the safety of Team USA athletes while maintaining their right to compete. After a thorough medical evaluation, Noah has decided to compete tonight. We respect his decision and will continue to closely monitor his condition,” USAFT said in its statement.

“As an organization, we rigorously adhere to CDC, USOPC and IOC guidelines on respiratory illnesses to prevent the spread of illness among team members, safeguarding their health and performance.”
