No wrong answers – Kuldiga opens contemporary art exhibition for children / Article / LSM.lv

“Nothing in the exhibition can be misunderstood.” This is what its creators say about the exhibition of contemporary art for children “Now Art” that has just opened in the Kuldiga County Museum. The exhibition features the works of four well-known artists not only in Latvia, but also abroad, through the eyes and research of children. The exhibition is designed for preschool and first grade children to increase interest and understanding of art, as well as to invite children and their parents to express their opinions and not be afraid of the incomprehensible.

To enjoy the world of video and audio installation by the artist Katrīna Neiburga “Transformations. Witch’s broom. Wind broom ”, a curtain must be opened and then the entrant enters the world of mysticism, history and natural secrets.

In another room by Michael Fisher redime “Trinity” has created a new being and suggests a connection between body, soul and spirit.

Inga Meldere’s paintings with a style related to the child’s directness are touched by serious themes, but the format of Andris Eglītis’ works will captivate the breath of more than one young visitor.

The artist Sabine Vernere has cherished such ideas for a contemporary art exhibition for children already when she lived abroad and saw how she got to know contemporary art there.

She also urges not to be afraid of parents to come here with their offspring, because it is impossible to ask the wrong questions about what is seen in the exhibition.

“The exhibition is accompanied by a text intended for a small audience, the text is written in a friendly, welcoming language, it offers an insight into the conversation to be conducted with the child about each of the works of art,” says Sabine Vernere.

As the exhibition is designed for children, the works are exhibited at the height of children’s eyes and in an engaging design.

The exposition is complemented by a series of tasks in a booklet for each visitor. It has been developed by the creators of the exhibition together with experienced teachers.

In “Now Art” books, children are invited to be co-authors of the works of art on display in the exhibition – to draw, search, find and be creative.

The rules for visiting the Kuldīga Regional Museum are the same as everywhere in the country, the flow of visitors is also controlled.

Kristīne Āboliņa, a representative of the Kuldīga Regional Museum, explains: “The museum can be visited either individually or by families with children who are one household. This exhibition is exactly where we are very much looking forward to families with children, this is a unique opportunity for children to learn and get to know contemporary art. ”

The exhibition is organized by the residence of Kuldīga Artists with the support of the State Cultural Capital Fund. It will be available until January 31.
