According to tire expert Sven Dittmann from Nokian Tires, it makes sense to use winter tires as a rule of thumb in any case between October and Easter.
“Winter tires work best at temperatures below seven degrees and in wintry road conditions and, above all, provide safety,” he explains.
In addition, “Anyone who drives with the wrong tires in winter not only increases the likelihood of a traffic accident, but also takes a financial risk,” says John-Paul Pieper, Managing Director of the online insurer Nexible.
In the event of damage caused by the policyholder, the liability insurance is obliged to provide benefits to the other party involved in the accident, but if statutory provisions have been disregarded, the insurance company can hold itself harmless and claim money back.
Dittmann and Pieper recommend: Pay attention to the tire quality and, if necessary, seek advice from specialist dealers. The legal minimum tread depth in Austria is four millimeters.
