Who will be the first patients to be vaccinated and when? Impossible to answer for the moment with precision. As if it were a state secret. The only certainty: even the main stakeholders do not seem really aware, which may appear worrying at first glance …
Last week, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) announced in a press release that the vaccination campaign was gradually being implemented in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. “The first vaccinations are carried out on Monday, December 28, in the Long-term Care Unit at Garraud Hospital in Lyon. The first stage of the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 will be deployed from January 4, 2021 in the 12 departments of the region. “
Thursday, December 31, very little information filtered out on the first vaccinations in the Loire and in the absence of Monday, it was rumored that the vaccination could begin on Tuesday, January 5. We know, since, that this date will not be tenable. We are now talking about the week of January 11, without any certainty.
Current vaccine deliveries according to the ARS
Three nursing homes, with different statuses, would be affected by the launch of the vaccination campaign: a public hospital establishment, a private non-profit establishment and a lucrative private establishment.
According to our information, in the first case, it could be the Long-Term Care Unit of the CHU de Bellevue in Saint-Étienne, and in a second, the mutual benefit residence of Bellevue, also in Saint-Étienne, managed by the French mutual insurance company Loire Haute-Loire Puy-de-Dôme. Nothing filtered on the other hand on the lucrative private establishment.
Solicited by Progress, the ARS was satisfied to answer that “the deliveries of doses of vaccines were in progress”.

“The push for the vaccination of health professionals over 50”
Jean-François Janowiak President of the Order of Physicians of the Loire
“You have to be careful, because everything changes from hour to hour. The initial calendar for the Loire, established at the very end of December, provided for a meeting on January 8 for the establishment of the operational departmental vaccination unit, which must manage the deployment of vaccination points in our department. The arrival of the first vaccines was announced around January 11 and 12, for members and staff in nursing homes.
After the announcement of the Minister of Health Olivier Véran, who wants an acceleration of the vaccination campaign for the benefit of caregivers over 50 (by allowing them to be vaccinated from Monday, January 4, Editor’s note), there will be no doubt changes. We should be fixed by the middle of next week.
As president of the Order of Doctors of the Loire, I am pushing the local authorities (ARS and CHU) to organize these vaccination centers for health professionals over 50 as soon as possible. . I hope that the Loire, which is unfortunately among the departments most affected by the pandemic, will be among the first concerned by the acceleration of the vaccination campaign.
More generally, I think we have to move forward on two fronts: on the one hand, schedule a vaccination campaign, and on the other hand allow all those who want to be vaccinated to be able to do so ”.
