Less than one in two walkers wears it in the country’s major cities.
We have been waiting for them since the start of the coronavirus crisis and now that they are there, the masks are shunned by a large part of the Belgian population. Whether on the street or in the markets, less than 50% of walkers systematically wear them in public space despite the recommendations of experts.
Some people who find it uncomfortable, others pointless, masked walkers always have a good excuse not to display it. “I don’t see the point of wearing one when I’m alone on the street”, estimates a young resident of the capital. It must be said that in the center of Brussels, less than a third of walkers wore it this weekend.
