No, Ubisoft does not remove access to PC games you already own

On Monday, there was complete confusion about several Ubisoft games on PC, after the developer apparently announced that these would be removed for good – even for players who own them. However, this will not be the case, Ubisoft has explained.

In another statement Eurogamer The French gaming company stated that those who own the games will still have access to them after they disappear.

Ubisoft has specified that you will still have access to the games you already own.

Steam

– As we wrote in our support article, only downloadable content and online features will be affected by the upcoming discontinuation. Owners of those games will still have access to them, be able to play them and download them again.

Fixed confusing statement

The background for the confusion was a warning the developer added a variety of Steam games. This claimed that the games would be removed completely from September 1, and thus indicated that even those who owned the games would lose access.

To Eurogamer, Ubisoft admits that the wording was clumsy. The warning has now been adjusted to make it clearer what is happening. The developer also said that the goal is to preserve older games.

– It has always been our intention to do everything in our power to make the older games available in the best possible condition for players, and this is what we are working towards.

Among the games that lose DLC and web functionality on September 1 are Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Silent Hunter 5 and Far Cry 3.
