No trend reversal for corona vaccinations – restrictions for unvaccinated people

No appointment – no problem: This is the motto for corona vaccinations. Will increasing numbers of infections and increasing restrictions for unvaccinated people increase the rate of vaccination again?

Despite restrictions for people without corona vaccination in everyday life, vaccination centers and medical practices in Germany are currently not seeing a general trend towards more vaccinations. However, some federal states reported a slight increase in the recent sharp decrease in vaccination speed.

Others expect increasing vaccination numbers. That shows a survey of the German press agency. From this Monday, partially expanded “3G” rules will apply in Germany: access to restaurants, hairdressers, clinics, swimming pools and other indoor areas is only available to those who have been vaccinated, who have had genesis or who have tested negative when there is a high infection rate. A week ago the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) recommended vaccinations for all children aged 12 and over. From October 11th, corona rapid tests will no longer be free of charge.

Impftempo

“The vaccinations are increasing slightly,” said a spokesman for the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Health regarding the demand from the vaccination centers. The second vaccinations dominated. There is no positive trend in the Westphalian-Lippian medical practices, as a spokeswoman for the local Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians said. In Baden-Württemberg, an increase in initial vaccinations at a low level can be observed, said a spokesman for the Ministry of Health in Stuttgart.

For Bavaria, Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) reported on Thursday of the increasing number of registrations in the state’s vaccination portal. In Schleswig-Holstein there is a tendency towards a slightly increased use of vaccination offers, according to the Ministry of Social Affairs in Kiel. In other countries there has so far been no sign of a trend reversal towards more vaccinations.

Representatives of the authorities and KVs in Lower Saxony, Hesse, Hamburg, Thuringia and Saxony expressed themselves accordingly. Some significant declines are reported from Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt. In the countries in which there are still summer holidays, the doctors’ associations and authorities are expecting vaccination numbers to rise in some cases afterwards.

Vaccination centers

According to the information, there are no longer any problems in getting a vaccination appointment in the countries. However, anyone who wants to be vaccinated in the future will have to do this more and more in practices, during certain vaccination campaigns or in companies. Because the vaccination centers will be closed in many places at the end of September. As in North Rhine-Westphalia, they should often be used beforehand for children and young people from the age of 12.

In Lower Saxony, all 50 vaccination centers are to close in September. After that, mobile vaccination teams should be in action. In the southwest, the central vaccination centers have already been closed; Vaccination centers in the districts will be operated until the end of September. Bavaria is reducing capacities at the end of September and is largely switching to mobile teams. The same applies to other states such as Schleswig-Holstein, where centers are to be restarted if necessary.

Vaccination campaigns

There should be new momentum in many places through special measures. Lower Saxony announced a nationwide vaccination campaign for young people from the age of twelve in the week from August 30th. Targeted campaigns for the younger generation are to take place at around 50 locations – for example at vocational schools, youth centers, city centers and sports fields.

Rhineland-Palatinate is organizing a family vaccination day on August 28th. Children, adolescents, their parents and relatives could get a spade on the last Saturday in the summer vacation without registration in all 31 vaccination centers and the six vaccination buses in the country. The state government wants to continue outreach vaccination campaigns in converted buses until at least September. In Hamburg, all around 100,000 pupils aged 12 and over should receive a vaccination offer at their district schools and grammar schools.

Medical President Klaus Reinhardt suggested in the newspapers Funke media group (Monday) to: “We should also get sports clubs, cultural associations and the various religious institutions on board for the vaccination campaign.” Sufficient vaccine, personnel and logistics are available. “Now creative ideas are needed.”

The “3G” rules

According to an agreement between the federal government and the federal states, the federal states prescribe “3G” for clinics, nursing homes, fitness studios, swimming pools, hairdressers, hotels and, for example, in restaurants or at events. From this Monday at the latest, if there is a high level of infection, only those people who have been vaccinated, recovered or tested negative should be allowed into public indoor spaces.

In Baden-Württemberg, everyone has been allowed to participate in social life again since last Monday, provided they have been vaccinated, recovered or tested. This is true here regardless of the incidence. In Bavaria, Rhineland-Palatinate or Hamburg, for example, the “3G” rule is to apply from Monday, in Lower Saxony from Tuesday, and in Berlin it has been in force since Friday for more areas than before.

In Bavaria, Prime Minister Söder no longer wants to align the corona rate with the incidence in the medium term, similar to that of the neighbor in the southwest. Instead, the situation in the clinics should be taken into account in the future.
