A track between The Hague Hollands Spoor (HS) and Rotterdam is defective. As a result, there are no trains running between the two cities today. This is expected to take until about 4 p.m., NS reports.
In the night from Wednesday to Thursday, a crack was discovered in a switch near Schiedam. From 10 a.m., that switch will be replaced and no train traffic will be possible, says ProRail.
Workers need space to repair the track. “That is why several tracks are out of use and no trains can run,” says a spokesman for the Dutch Railways.
ProRail speaks of a “major operation”. It is expected to be completed around 4 p.m. Until then, travelers can use buses and metros.
At the start of the timetable, trains could still run on the track in dribs and drabs, but much slower than usual. Four of the six trains failed.
Travelers traveling to and from The Hague Central Station and Leiden Station must also take into account delays and cancellations of trains.
