No time for the Queen because of Brexit | International

GREAT BRITAIN ⋅ The ongoing Brexit tremor has not even left British Prime Minister Boris Johnson time for his traditional appointment with the Queen this week.

“The audience has been postponed because of the prime minister’s busy schedule,” said a Buckingham Palace spokesman on Thursday. “Another audience is planned for next week.”

It is an age-old tradition that the British Prime Minister exchanges current events with the Queen once a week. Because of the corona pandemic, this has been taking place over the phone for months. But even for that there was not enough time on Wednesday – the traditional day for the royal audience – Johnson met with EU Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen for a three-hour dinner in Brussels – but the hoped-for breakthrough in the trade pact did not materialize.
