No surprises at the Tour de Ski – cross-country skiing

After the sprints on New Year’s Day, the Tour de Ski continued on Saturday with endurance races. There were no surprises in the Swiss Val Müstair right next to the border with the Vinschgau Valley.

In the men’s category, top favorite Alexander Bolshunov won over 15 kilometers in classic style. The Russian had narrowly missed the sprint victory on New Year’s Day, and now he has scored his first success in 2021. Behind the newly crowned 24-year-old, Dario Cologna (Switzerland) and Ivan Yakimushkin (Russia) crossed the finish line with a considerable gap of 23 and 25 seconds respectively. Bolshunov now leads the Tour ranking.

The best Azzurro was Francesco De Fabiani in 25th, Federico Pellegrino came in 28th. No one from South Tyrol was there: Michael Hellweger, the only tour starter, left after the sprint on Friday.

In the women’s race over 10 kilometers there was a heartbeat final, in which the Swede Linn Svahn beat Yulia Stupak (Russia) by 0.7 seconds and against Jessie Diggins (USA) by 0.8 seconds. For Svahn it was the second success in a row after she had already won the sprint on New Years Day.
