Not surprisingly, the new BMW M4, respectively the BMW M3, which has the same technical characteristics shows higher power in a dino test. As was the case with the M5 and other models of the brand in previous years, the latest M-Performance models show a discrepancy in the positive direction with the factory data.
According to the German brand, the 3.0-liter petrol six with code S58 generates a maximum power of 480 hp. with the standard M3 / M4 and 510 hp. in the Competition version, respectively with a torque of 550Nm. and 650 nm. for the more powerful version. This of course is data measured on the engine, which means that those on wheels, as measured in dino tests should be about 15% less.
In reality, this is not the case, according to an IND Distribution experiment. They usually take the M4, which shows a result of almost 465 horsepower and 554 Newton meters on wheels. Calculating the losses of 15%, this shows that the new M4 generates about 547 horsepower and 651 Newton meters per engine.
Of course, the results vary according to the location of the tests and the temperature, altitude and humidity, and some even claim that the losses in the new cars are about 10% in power transmission and torque, but still a difference of 77 horsepower sounds really big. In any case, BMW customers are unlikely to be dissatisfied with this and will certainly receive the promised data, and even more.
