“No such end deserves”: Real Madrid mourns the loss of Lorenzo Sanz

Real Madrid’s former president, Lorenzo Sanz, is dead. Sanz, who is in poor health, had been infected with the corona virus. He was President of the Royal for five years.

Lorenzo Sanz, the former president of Real Madrid, the Spanish football record champion, has died of a corona infection. This was announced by his son Lorenzo Sanz Jr. on Saturday evening in a communiqué. The 76-year-old Sanz had not only an infection with the new virus but also kidney disease, the treating doctors announced on request. Nothing was initially communicated about the cause of death.

Sanz had tested positive for the new Sars-CoV-2 virus a few days ago and had been in the intensive care unit of Madrid’s Jiménez Díaz hospital since Tuesday. The Spanish professional league expressed condolences to the bereaved. “My father recently died. He didn’t deserve such an end,” Sanz’s eldest son wrote in his media release.

“One of the best, bravest, and hard-working people I’ve seen in my life comes from us. His family and Real Madrid were his life,” he added. Sanz, a native of Madrid, made a fortune in the construction and real estate industries. Between 1995 and 2000 he was chief of the royal. During this time, Real won the Champions League twice (1998 and 2000) and a league title (1997).
