The attack on the city took place on Saturday, the day after Russian and Ukrainian representatives signed a grain agreement with the UN and Turkey. Odesa is an important port for Ukrainian grain exports.
– The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have hit a Ukrainian naval vessel and a warehouse of naval missiles. There are no signs that there were such targets at the site where the rockets hit, writes the British defense in an intelligence update on Twitter.
They further write that Russia almost certainly sees the naval missiles as a central threat that limits the effectiveness of its Black Sea fleet.
– This has seriously undermined the overall invasion plan, since Russia cannot realistically attempt a landing to capture Odesa, says the Twitter message.
The British defense believes that Russia will continue its attempts to destroy the Ukrainian naval missiles.
– However, the Russian process for finding the targets is in all likelihood routinely undermined by old intelligence, poor planning and a top-down approach to operations, they continue.
