With the home win, the Wilds confirm their upward trend. After the seven-game winning streak against the Penguins ended on Thursday, they can celebrate a home win after Saturday’s success. Kevin Fiala is not one of the match winners as usual. During his short playing time he has chances to score, but he can’t score a goal. The 25-year-old from Zuzwil has been on the ice for a good 14 minutes.
Washington captain Alex Ovechkin found clear words about the lost game against the Wilds: “Minnesota was able to make the difference because it efficiently exploited our mistakes. We should just forget about this game.”
The first goal was scored after 36 seconds. Joel Eriksson Ek, in cooperation with Alex Goligoski, was able to play the defense cleverly and exploit the capitals’ uncertainties. That goal and Tyson Jost’s to make it 2-0 were the second fastest goals in Minnesota history.
“Mentally we were very strong. In addition, we played the puck very quickly out of the dangerous zones and were able to deliver the key players well,” said Wild trainer Dean Evason on his team’s successful performance. Along with Jordan Greenway, who provided three assists, doubles goalscorer Joel Eriksson Ek was named Star of the Game.
