The man lives in a Roma settlement outside the city. Although he is an EU citizen and has lived in Turin for years, his daughter has no right to ride on the school bus because the father has not received a residence permit due to his unemployment.
Every day the father and his daughter have to walk a three-kilometer walk along a busy road, reported the Milanese daily “Corriere della Sera”. The case caught the attention of local media reporting on the family’s situation. As a result, a group of citizens who had remained anonymous, father and daughter, decided to finance the return trip by taxi until the matter could be settled.
The girl’s father, who has two other minor children, was born in Turin, but does not have Italian nationality. “I want my daughter to go to kindergarten,” said the man. He submitted an application to a court in Turin through a lawyer so that his daughter could also take the school bus to kindergarten.
The father thanked the anonymous donor for the gesture. He’s still fighting for his residency permit, he said.
