No room for new charging stations in the Netherlands due to overcrowded electricity network | Abroad

In three years’ time, the available grid capacity in three thousand neighborhoods will be exceeded, says Rutger Croon of ElaadNL. According to him, there is no place for new charging stations, unless cars are charged in a smart way.

With ‘smart charging’, the electric vehicle is digitally connected to the electricity grid. This ensures that cars can charge when less power is used, for example at night. The Dutch State Secretary for Infrastructure and Water Street Vivianne Heijnen recently wrote in a letter to the House that this technology should become the norm from 2025.
