No road through – Austria split Vienna and Sturm Graz goalless

The game was fair from the start. Both teams started bravely as they looked for the way forward. Already in the 10th minute, the women of Graz were able to pose a threat for the first time with a strong corner, but the Austrian defense remained alert. The Violets got their first shot through Louise Schöffel in the 18th minute, but the ball sailed over the goal. After a short time, another corner of the Graz team remained unused (21′).

Balance in the first half

As the game progressed, more and more chances came, but both teams were unsure in finishing. Schöffel tried again, but missed the target again (24th). Soon after, Lena Triendl forced the Graz goalkeeper to make a save (25th). Shortly before the half-time whistle, the hosts were able to build pressure again and win several corners, but Haidner and the purple defenders defended with confidence. He went into the locker room without visiting.

More purple chances in the second half

The second half started with Austria stronger, who took more control of the game. In the 58th minute, a shot on goal by the Violets was cleared with her fist by the Graz goalkeeper. A free kick from Dominique Bruinenberg in the 64th minute also caused danger, but Sturm’s tight defense did not allow it to finish

In the final stage, the Violets increased the pressure again: Triendl pulled away in the 79th minute, but this time it was also the visitors’ goalkeeper. A free kick in the 82nd minute provided the next chance, but Bruinenberg’s shot went well wide of the target. The last action of the game belonged to Batarilo, and his effort in the 90th minute also missed the target.

In the end, the two teams split with a 0-0 draw. While Austria Vienna had more play and chances to score in the second half, in the end it was not enough for more than a goalless draw.
