No reforms to benefit a few and impoverish the people: AMLO

Sayula, Veracruz. Continuing his joint tours with his successor, Claudia Sheinbaum, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that with her “there is a guarantee of continuity with change and social justice. There is no sign that the government will be in the hands of a minority, at the service of a few. There are no reforms to benefit a few and impoverish the people. That has already gone to the dustbin of history.”

During the event to inaugurate the modernization of the Acayucan-La Ventosa highway, López Obrador celebrated the continuity of all the social programs created under his administration and their expansion through initiatives promoted by Sheinbaum. “I wish it were the day I handed over the belt,” the president suggested jokingly.

However, he pointed out that the increase will not be on the scale that has been seen in the last three years, which reached 25 percent, although never below inflation.

He acknowledged that the expansion of the Acayucan-La Ventosa highway and the inclusion of bypasses so that it is no longer necessary to enter the towns, generated discontent, but that is very respectable.

However, now “modernity can be achieved from below and for everyone. What is arbitrary is that something is done that is harmful and that there are no options to care for people.”

The virtual president recalled that during these tours, in which they have practically visited the entire country, they have inaugurated and supervised works, reviewed programs, and discussed the present and future of the transformation.

“It is like inaugurating paths of transformation because in each work, it gives meaning to what the president has done, the essence of what our movement shows is seen. Equality means for the good of all, first the poor. And above all, a long-term vision: I come to Veracruz to tell them that we are not going to betray the people, that we are going to continue with the legacy of the best president of Mexico.”

At the end of the event, in a brief interview, López Obrador referred again to his successor: “As they say in my town, Claudia is going to be the best president in the world.”

“It’s an honor to be with Claudia today”: AMLO

Later in Minatitlán, as part of his last tours in Veracruz, President López Obrador inaugurated the modernization of roads in the vicinity of this city, where he was received with jubilation by the community who vehemently chanted the refrain “it is an honor to be with Obrador.”

Accompanying him, his successor, Claudia Sheimbaun, commented that the first time she heard that cry was in the context of the protests against the electoral fraud in 2006. Faced with the insistent cry, the current president got up from his seat and went to the microphone, interrupting his successor and adapting the cry: “it is an honor to be with Claudia Hoy,” which was immediately echoed by her supporters.
