There are no prospects for negotiations between Russia and the West on Ukraine yet. About it informed Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with International Affairs magazine.
“Western sponsors are constantly pushing the Kiev regime to raise rates. And we regard the hypocritical calls of the Westerners for negotiations as a tactical ploy to once again buy time, give the exhausted Ukrainian troops a respite and the opportunity to regroup, re-pump them with weapons and ammunition, ”the minister said, calling such a position a way of war, not diplomacy.
According to Lavrov, the United States does not intend to end the conflict, as they have the task of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia and weakening the country as much as possible militarily, economically and politically. Therefore, Washington insists on the need to resolve the conflict on the terms of the Ukrainians and their “peace formula”, the minister stressed.
Lavrov called Russia’s approach to the current conflict “consistent and completely transparent.” According to him, Russia has been open to diplomatic dialogue since the first days of the special operation, but the West holds multilateral meetings without inviting Russian representatives, thus trying to convince developing countries to support the Ukrainian “peace formula”.
The 10 conditions of the “peace formula” from Ukraine, which were announced by President Zelensky in the fall of 2022, include the restoration of the country’s territorial integrity, the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory, fixing the end of the conflict, etc.
On August 5-6, negotiations were held in Saudi Jeddah, where Ukraine was supposed to present its “peace formula”. About 40 states took part in the meeting, but Russia was not at the meeting. The Foreign Ministry stressed that Moscow expects Russia’s partners to “share with us their assessments” on the results of the meeting.
