The Almelo court did not impose a prison sentence on 30-year-old Kenzo K. for killing two women. K. received a TBS with compulsory treatment. In September last year, he stabbed to death two fellow citizens of his apartment in Almelo, after which he shot a police officer and a nurse with a crossbow.
The court finds K. guilty of double manslaughter and two attempted crossbow homicides.
Although the court speaks of horrible events that cannot be understood, the judge declares that he was insane. Therefore, no prison sentence is imposed. According to the court, K. had no concrete plan to take people’s lives. He was in a psychosis when he killed the two women.
According to the public prosecutor (OM), K. had been using drugs for several years. This allegedly caused psychosis, which led him to behave aggressively. The OM asked for 22 years in prison and TBS with mandatory treatment.
Relatives reacted emotionally to the court ruling. “Are you crazy!” was shouted when the verdict was pronounced.
The two women who were stabbed to death on 17 September 2021 were K.’s 70-year-old neighbor and her 52-year-old niece. The 70-year-old victim was stabbed on her sofa. She had nine stab wounds.
His 52-year-old cousin fled to the bedroom after several stab wounds, where she was eventually killed. She had seventeen stab wounds.
A 33-year-old woman was also present at the scene. She took care of the 70-year-old neighbor downstairs and barely escaped. Hanging from the railing of the balcony of the house, she called 112. The nurse fell from two floors and was seriously injured on the ground when K. Lei shot an arrow at her. The prosecutor spoke of a horror scenario.
