The negotiations on returning to school after the Christmas holidays are rekindled with the governors who intend to relaunch a new proposal on the rules of quarantine in elementary and sixth grade. After the government today rejected the hypothesis of postponing the start of lessons to January in the face of the growing increase in infections of Coronavirus, the governors would now be working to define the minimum number of infections in the classroom, beyond which distance education should be triggered regardless of whether students are vaccinated or not. In view of the meeting of the Health Commission scheduled for tomorrow 4 January, the Regions are evaluating three or four infections as a threshold that can trigger the quarantine. Under that figure, however, only self-preservation would be expected. In the meantime, the return to school remains confirmed for everyone between 7 and 10 January, as foreseen by the official calendar.
The fight
The president of Campania Vincenzo De Luca he had been among the governors who most strongly demanded it slip return to the classrooms for students. «In the current picture of the spread of the infection among the very young, the simple postponement of the return to school would seem to me a balanced and very useful measure – these are the words of De Luca -. Taking 20 or 30 days of respite would allow to cool the peak of contagion, which will probably have another boost in January, and to develop the largest possible vaccination campaign for the student population ». “It would not be an ideal measure – is his conclusion – but it would allow to resume lessons in the presence shortly with greater serenity for the pupils, for the families, for the school staff”.
Experts in favor
Also the coordinator of the Scientific Technical Committee Franco Locatelli he had talked about the possibility of delaying the return to schools by a week, offering as a solution that of recovering it in June, at the end of the school year. The school leaders, for their part, are opposed to Dad. According to the national association of principals, the “best measure to be implemented after the holidays is to swab students before the reopening of schools.” But time is running out: there is only a handful of days and one left screening comprehensive over the entire student population seems a complicated hypothesis to carry out. “We as the NPC are opposed to putting unvaccinated children in Dad because it would be discrimination – these are the words of the president of the Mario Rusconi association -. If this is the proposal or postpone entry, it means that the school will pay for a series of shortcomings. At this rate we risk the destruction of the sector ».
