After posting two syllabi of poems (The season of dreams will returnIl Segnale, 1999, e The noise of the soulIbiskos, 2006), Ametrano now returns to bookshops with Edizioni Clichy with the collection of verses No port will keep the storm away.

“Verses that insinuate themselves into the folds of feeling, into the nuances of emotions, recognizing the inability to give certainties but capable of recognizing the footsteps of the path”, is how the book is presented.

In the introduction, Simone Innocentireferring to the new compositions, writes that “these poems are the cast of a mystery. They have the darkness, and they have the pace: even the unfathomable backlight…”.

There is also space for a letter from Vera Gheno: “(…) For me you are this, Gabriele: the man of contradictions. And your poems, in their own way, reproduce these contradictions, revealing a person with terrible and dark sides that, at first glance, are difficult to see. Today I know that, like me, you need to be alone at regular intervals; that you care about friendships, and that you are a lion in defending the people dear to you. On the other hand, you are also someone who does not forget a wrong suffered by you or by your ‘clan’, even after a very long time…”.

They are ilLibraio.it courtesy of the publishing house, we propose two poems from the collection:

No port
will keep the storm away,
no cathedral
it will protect from wrath.
The baptism of catastrophe
of the soul will bless the strength
and the loss of blood.
They will cover the draperies
mourning and pain
dug into the folds
of a fragile wall.
The uncertain will come
and we will certainly need to prepare.

In the footprint of the amphibian
some petals remain
just scattered drops of color
and shell casings from the battle.
Some smiles
the memory remained,
crushed by crawlers.
Nothing more
of the ancient identity,
only ashes and despair
in the pockets of the survivors

“Don’t ask us to speak,” he wrote Eugenio Montale“don’t ask us the formula that can open worlds for you”. “This anthology was born from this awareness, from the belief that poetry places itself on the margins of a contemporaneity that lives on shared personal paths. But if the feelings in our time are unstable and confused, the language that describes their form and gives them a precise outline is alert and present. Like a frame on an abstract painting, the poems in this work let the content merge with the feeling that the reader experiences“, is explained in the presentation of No port will keep the storm away.
