Karlsruhe (tvk). The Knielingers had imagined the start of the season differently. In the first game they suffered a completely avoidable 26:30 defeat against TSV Rot-Malsch. At halftime they were two goals behind (14:16).

The men from the west of Karlsruhe were only in the lead once in the whole game. After six minutes of play, Philipp Reither scored to make it 4:3. Otherwise, the team coached by Markus Elsner and Ralf Hildenbrand had a bad day.

The guests soon increased their lead to three goals (7:10, 17th minute). The Knielinger team then chased after them without being able to turn the game around. The TVK had great difficulties, particularly in defense, against a dynamic guest seven who played at high speed.

At one point it looked like a positive turnaround for TVK when the yellow shirts equalized with the scores 11:11 (22nd) and 12:12 (24th). Then more and more technical errors occurred and more than a few shots were thrown at the opponent’s goal.

TVK did not let the guests pull away and the goal difference remained manageable, but they simply could not take the lead. The team from the fan city made too many bad throws and technical errors. They also conceded easy goals. The half-time score of 14:16 was not satisfactory for the home team.

After the break, the numerous spectators saw the same picture. TSV Rot-Malsch had not had a great day either, but they could take credit for cleverly exploiting Knielingen’s deficits. The guests were able to successfully counterattack far too often. Early in the second half, the deficit had already grown to four goals with the TVK leading 16:20 (37th minute). This would prove to be too great a burden.

The TVK team kept their distance from their opponents at 19:23, 22:26 and 24:28. In the last six minutes of the game, Knielingen tried their luck with a very offensive defensive variant – ultimately unsuccessfully. In the end, Knielingen suffered a 26:30 home defeat, which many observers in the Reinhold Crocoll Hall considered to be completely unnecessary.

Coach Markus Elsner describes the events from his point of view: “Overall, the guests’ victory is fine. In the first half, we didn’t get a grip on the opponent’s defense. Our defensive behavior was not right. In the second half, we wasted far too many opportunities up front. We had 20 missed throws and then there were technical errors.” The new man on the Knielingen bench also thanked the spectators in the stands for the great support during his league debut in the Reinhold Crocoll Hall.

Next Saturday (7 p.m.) the Knielinger team will face an even more difficult task when they travel to the title favorite in Heddesheim.
