The HCI suffers its third defeat in a row

HC Innsbruck
In a balanced first third, both teams had their first opportunities right from the start. On the guests’ side, Gregory Moro hits the outside post with a hidden shot, on the Haie’s side, Ryan Valentini checks Black Wings goalie Tirronen (4th), Patrick Grasso misses in a promising position (5th). In the 7th minute the home team took the lead through their captain. Corey Mackin hits the far corner to make it 1-0 after an assist from Valentini. After that the game loses its flow due to a few penalties, the Sharks are, with interruptions, always in the power play, but there is not enough precision there, more than a shot from the pole from Jan Lattner is not visible. In the 15th minute, the Linzers were somewhat lucky to equalize. St-Amant pulls away, Evan Buitenhuis misjudges a bit – 1:1! Towards the end of the first third, the Haie goalie is once again the focus. First he parries a shot from Andi Kristler (18th), then he makes a monster save against Sean Collins (20th). With an overall deserved 1:1 we go into the dressing rooms.
It remains tight
The second third continues in the same key as the first section. The game remains close, both teams give each other little space in their own zone, and great opportunities are rare. The Haie get two more opportunities to outnumber in the middle third, but the Innsbruck team’s power play continues to be magical. Coach Jordan Smotherman even resorts to unconventional means and sends the fourth line onto the ice in large numbers, which, by the way, does an excellent job. In the 36th minute the Sharks got lucky. Pusnik only hits the bar for Linz. On the other side, Mark Rassell fails alone in front of Tirronen after a mistake by the Linz defense. So it goes into the break at 1-1. By the way, the Black Wings are on the power play for the first time this evening. They took the lead into the final third for over a minute and a half.
Linz with a better ending
The Haie survive this outnumbering, but are unable to break free from their own third, and the Linzers continue to press. In this phase it is ex-Shark Nico Feldner who puts the Black Wings on the road to victory. The Tyrolean deflects a shot unstoppably – 1:2. The Sharks don’t recover from this goal for a long time and don’t make things any easier for themselves with two more penalties. Only towards the end of the game did the Tyroleans knock on Rasmus Tirronen again through Mackin (2x) and Grasso, but the equalizer was no longer possible. On the contrary: Sean Collins made the decision two minutes before the end with a 3-1 win for Linz.
