According to the rumors of the past months, Quantic Dreams “Star Wars Eclipse” was officially announced for the consoles and the PC at The Game Awards 2021 at the beginning of the month. Apart from the fact that the plot begins around 200 years before the events of “Star Wars: Episode 1”, no concrete details about the open world project have yet been given.
As the insider Tom Henderson recently reported, we will probably have to wait a while, because “Star Wars Eclipse” should not appear for a few years. In a recent video, Henderson went one more time and pointed out that the new “Star Wars” adventure too after 18 months of development is not yet available in a playable version. An incident that the insider attributes to what he believes to be a problematic development in which several factors come together.
Should Quantic Dream be sold?
According to Henderson, “Star Wars Eclipse” began as “Project Karma”. An online role-playing game proposed by Sony Interactive Entertainment and declined in favor of Detroit: Become Human. Subsequently, the developers of Quantic Dream decided to move the already designed assets into a “Star Wars” project, which was then presented to Lucasfilm. After Lucasfilm gave the green light, the idea of ”Star Wars: Eclipse” was born.

A time when Quantic Dream was also looking for a buyer, according to Henderson, as those in charge of the French studio believed that a takeover would have provided additional financial resources. the reports at the time potential buyers are said to have deterred the toxic working conditions at Quantic Dream. The fact that after 18 months there is still no playable version of “Star Wars Eclipse” is due to various problems with Quantic Dreams Engine, as it is simply not designed for open worlds with many NPCs.
The planned multiplayer component also causes problems, according to the insider. Therefore, we shouldn’t expect a release before 2024 or even 2025. Please note, however, that Quantic Dream did not want to comment on the current rumors about the possibly problematic development of “Star Wars Eclipse”.
