ReportageThe move to the Merengues at the beginning of 2020 was followed by the decision for Reinier Jesus to conquer the Bundesliga on loan in the summer and to join BVB. A recipe for success that, among others, has worked wonderfully with Achraf Hakimi and is intended to help the Brazilian break through into Europe’s elite. But somehow this calculation doesn’t work out so far.

DORTMUND. Just a few days ago, the royal family declared the loan deal for Takefusa Kubo at Villareal FC prematurely ended: Because that „Japanese Messi ”did not work in Villarreal, he was instead loaned to Getafe FC, where he is now supposed to demonstrate his skills more often. It was the pull on the ripcord, which now no longer sounds completely renegade for another royal loan: we’re talking about Reinier Jesus Carvalho – in short: Reinier. Currently in service with Borussia from Dortmund.
Short missions and grandstand guest
So far, however, the Brazilian has only been an employee of the yellow-blacks on paper, de facto his services are rarely used. Inevitably, dissatisfaction germinates, both in the Spanish capital and among the highly gifted offensive artist, who will celebrate his 19th birthday in a few days. It was pretty good for him in September „Zehner ”started in North Rhine-Westphalia: first the debut in the cup, then in the Bundesliga with a short appearance against FC Augsburg and four days later as a substitute in the German Supercup against Bayern. Lucien Favre did not throw the offensive man, who was born in Brasília, into the cold water, but dipped him with his toes over and over again through short deployments in order to gradually acclimate him.

“It’s not Rio and it’s not Madrid either, but it’s a working-class city, that suits me”, the Brazilian summed up after a short period of acclimatization in an interview with the Ruhr Nachrichten. After the first rather positive weeks, however, the short stakes were minimized, finally the playmaker was also thrown back by the corona virus, so that the South American, traded as Kaká’s successor, was completely left out from the beginning of November to mid-December. It was not until the 1: 5 debacle against VfB Stuttgart on December 12th that the right footer, who had become a professional at Flamengo, was guaranteed the longest stay on the green with a good half hour.

New trainer, old grief
It was the last game in which the Swiss Favre was in command at BVB, after which the trainer and Borussia parted ways. Edin Terzić took over the wheel and Reinier should have the opportunity to focus on his new coach. Against Bremen, the former captain of the Brazilian U17 national team was at least considered for the squad, then the Brazilian, thrown back by muscular problems, only found himself in the stands.
But even with the wound recovered, the playmaker did not come back to Terzić’s squad. The player, who won the Brazilian championship – six goals in 14 games – and the Copa Libertadores in his first year as a professional, was certified as having great technical skills, a good eye and a pronounced game intelligence. He doesn’t get the chance to show these gifts to the world of football at the moment, for example in the top game between RB Leipzig and Borussia when he was removed from the squad.

Not a single starting XI, no goal participation and only 136 minutes of play have so far been recorded for the right footer, which is why rumors are already circulating that the royal team are considering an early termination of the loan deal, which was denied by Dortmund. BVB sports director Michael Zorc ensured a bit of calm at a press conference in early December by vehemently denying existing speculations: „Basically we do not have this consideration. He didn’t have an easy start with us and was thrown back again by the Covid infection ”, describes the functionary and asks for indulgence: “We are patient, which is why we arrange a two-year loan in such cases. “
Numerous examples from the recent past, which were carefully built for the big football stage, prove that the 18-year-old is basically in good hands with Borussia. “BVB has a good reputation in Brazil when it comes to developing young players”, said Reinier personally about his decision for Dortmund. “The club is known in my home country for giving young players a chance, the people in Brazil follow very closely how these players develop.” The patience mentioned by Zorc is certainly an important stylistic device, which should not be used in an inflationary way. Because: Even a highly gifted talent needs match practice and the agreed two years of loan are quickly reduced.
Patience – but not without limits
It cannot be ruled out that Reinier Jesus will still keep his working hours in the Signal Iduna Park, which is why a little patience is actually required. Finally he dances BVB at three weddings and in this tight schedule, Terzić can sooner or later need a man of this quality very well, especially since the injury-prone captain Marco Reus should certainly get a breather or two. Because the Brazilian is also pursuing specific goals that he can only achieve through playing time: „I want to be successful with this team, personally I want to develop myself on the pitch as a player and off the pitch as a person. “ Therefore, Reinier should be back on the lawn as soon as possible, because if the situation does not change by the summer, Real Madrid will have to pull the rip cord again and, as with Kubo, find a new employer for Reinier, because as French media recently reported, it is Real Valladolid and its president Ronaldo are already an interested buyer from LaLiga.
No place at BVB: Reinier on the yellow and black siding
