Russian goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov was arrested shortly before heading to North America and the NHL. The reason was suspicions of fleeing military service. According to reports, Fedotov is nauseous and hospitalized.

Last Friday he stayed arrested by Russian authorities on charges of trying to evade military servicesomething that can result in up to two years in prison.
According to information after the arrest, Fedotov has been taken to hospital by ambulance due to abdominal pain. Fedotov’s lawyer told on Saturday night about Fedotov’s poor health.
– At present, we can not say exactly how it is. He is in hospital but for some reason he is not listed as other patients. Neither we nor his parents were allowed to meet him, Alexei Ponomarev said Match TV.
Received some form of injection
Ponomarev suspects that he wants to take Fedotov to a military investigation, despite his serious health condition.
– Judging by the latest contact with him, he does not feel well. He says he has received some form of injection whose contents he does not know. He was told that it was prescribed by a doctor. He does not look very well. I can not compare with how he felt yesterday but he looks like a typically sick person, Ponomarev said.
Swedish Karl Månsson, an expert on post-Soviet ice hockey, wrote on Sunday morning on Twitter that Fedotov has been transported to the closed town of Severomorsk in the Murmansk area in northwestern Russia.
Fedotov had been arrested outside an ice rink in St. Petersburg.
Strong season this year
25-year-old Lappeenranta-born Fedotov became Russian champion with CSKA Moscow when the team took home this year’s Gagarin Cup in the KHL. Fedotov is said to have informed the club management that he intends to leave the team and the country.
Fedotov was the goalkeeper when the Russian Olympic team took silver behind Finland in Beijing in February. He was named the best goalkeeper of the season in the KHL.
