In Coffee Time radioof Connect Arizonawe were accompanied by Brenda Ortiz Garibaldi, representing United Food Bankto make known that the Million Meal Club has new members.

These are companies that are recognized for donating and helping to build a community or social ecosystem that is strengthened through community service in Arizona.

In this border state there are food disparities, according to the local Chamber of Commerce, where there are many people who do not have access to the basic basket and sometimes do not have food that helps them survive through what they should consume, even if it is of a basic need.

🎙️ What a beautiful job to be able to offer and create alliances, one alone cannot do anything. Tell us a little more about these companies that have joined their mission and how they are transforming lives.

Yes, these companies not only give us money; These companies come from volunteers, they do food drives, which are food collections in their companies with their employees; They also want to be there at all the events we do. We had a telethon in the summer and they came, many of these companies came to help us show the community that they are here too and that they care.

So those companies, right now we have a total of 23 companies, some of them are like Frys, the Arizona CardinalsDiamondback, Wells Fargo, Albertsons Safeway, those are some of the companies that almost everyone knows or knows about, but they never know about everything they do to help the community.

🎙️ And a very challenging time is coming. October, November, December are like Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They go away in the blink of an eye, but it is also when we gather most with loved ones around food, and many people do not have access to that, to a way to celebrate with something warm on their table. Tell us a little more about the services that this Food Bank offers and how anyone listening to us could also have access to them.

Yes of course. I think that we, all of us at United Food Bank, have one goal and that is that no one has to be suffering without knowing what they are going to eat tomorrow or what they are going to feed their children tomorrow. So, especially now – in these upcoming times – we want to focus, make sure that all families have food for these holidays.

On November 20 we are going to have the Mesa convention, it is called Mesa Convention Center; We are going to be giving turkeys and boxes of food to all the families that come and can. It’s going to be like a drive-thru, they can drive, we put a box in their car and they leave, that’s it; They don’t have to give information or anything and it will be quick, something that all families can go and grab so that they have food at home these holidays. This Thanksgiving, we’re also doing another one in December. It’s December 20th and November 20th.

🎙️ Just before the celebrations Thanksgiving and Christmas. And those of us who may have more privileges, how can we help?

Right now we are going to announce a program called Pass the Plate, it is going to be a program where you can donate five dollars; Five dollars can go so far, for example, on Thanksgiving, five dollars can be a pie for a family; 20 dollars can be a turkey for a family; If you donate $100 you can feed an entire family; then you can go to our website and donate money there. One dollar can also provide five meals for a family.

🎙️ Wow, and volunteering… Look, with my children last year, the school did an activity in which we were going to pack meals for them to go to different parts of the world, and they were fascinated and since then we have been looking volunteer opportunities that also promote these family values, which the Food Bank promotes. Are there opportunities that we are going to help, deliver, do?

Yes, of course yes, especially now that we are going to have many events trying to gather so much food; We have many, many opportunities for you to come volunteer, if you go to our page you can choose to volunteer, and you can choose the day. We have every day of the week so they can go, even Saturdays too.

🎙️ Excellent, so you already know in this time that it is not only about receiving the many gifts and celebrating the great blessings or fortunes or fulfilled dreams that we have had in our lives, but also about giving back a little of how much our community gives us. and the many privileges that some of us have without realizing it.

So, if you also want to sign up for our newsletteryou can subscribe at connectarizona.com, we are going to give you the details of United Food Bank where you can donate and you will also be able to see the list of organizations that are supporting this type of initiatives, in case you also want to say congratulations and thank you.
