No one discovered and named more asteroids than Eric Elst

No human has discovered and named so many asteroids as Eric Elst. Exactly 3,760 pieces. And the Antwerp astronomer did it the old way: taking pictures with telescopes and then checking those pictures with a magnifying glass all night long. His space objects were given names such as Van Ostaijen, Kim Clijsters or Eddy Wally. That is called putting Flanders on the space map. Last week Elst passed away at the age of 85.
