The head of Beirut International Airport, Fadi Al-Hassan, confirmed that “there is no official adoption of the statement issued by the air traffic controllers, in which they announced the suspension of the evening shift at the airport, explaining that there is no danger to the safety of flight.”
In a statement to Al-Jumhuriya newspaper, Al-Hassan stressed that “no flights will be suspended, and our airport will continue to operate around the clock, seven days a week.”
On the other hand, follow-up sources told Al-Jumhuriya that “the demands of the air traffic controllers are right, especially since their number has decreased to 13, which is a very small number, which makes their working conditions difficult. The sources attributed the failure to appoint new observers to the imbalance in the sectarian distribution.” So that the majority of them are from one sect, and there is a fear that this step will be opposed by the rest of the sects.
The sources called for the employment of successful candidates in the civil service course in 2018, so that the observer would be comfortable in his work, which requires accuracy and focus.
