The announcement of the large number of Corona infections in China, coinciding with the holiday season in Lebanon, has led to a reset of the previous epidemic scenarios, in light of the dire health and living conditions. Will the start of 2023 be similar to that of 2020?
A member of the parliamentary health committee and the scientific committee for the fight against the coronavirus, Dr. Abd al-Rahman al-Bizri confirmed in an interview with “Hadath Online” that “there is no need for exaggerated concern, but rather the important thing is to be careful and continue to monitor and stay prepared to face all possibility”.
Dr. Al-Bizri underlined the need to continue monitoring the epidemiological reality over the next month, especially since 700,000 people had arrived in Lebanon at the end of last year: if the increase in infections has not been significant, it means that we passed the holiday phase “safely”.
And Dr. Al-Bizri reassured that “there is no direct flight between Beirut and Beijing, and therefore it is assumed that arrivals from China have carried out the necessary checks before their arrival in Lebanon, as well as community immunity in Lebanon has reached almost 90%, both by direct infection” with the virus, and by vaccination, denying that the vaccine has completely lost its effectiveness.
Dr Al-Bizri explained this by saying: “It is true that the antibodies contained in the vaccine can lose some of their effectiveness with time, but human immunity has something like a memory that allows it to quickly deal with any virus that the body has. previously infected. So if you get hurt, it will be much weaker.
If the Lebanese do not want to repeat the previous black scenario, they are certainly not ready, economically and psychologically, to bear any new measures, so will the “rupture” of the holidays pass peacefully? Let’s wait and see.
