“No Nazis on the Streets” – View Info – 2024-09-04 21:38:14

/ world today news/ “No Nazis on the Streets” – with posters like this, a march was held in Sofia against the Lukovmarch scheduled for next week.

Lukovmarsh is a torchlight procession in honor of Gen. Hristo Lukov, about whose historical personality there are different and extreme opinions. The civil initiative against Lukovmarsh declares a position against the rise of xenophobic and racist sentiments hidden behind the mask of patriotism and says: “The public must hear another voice – that of humanity and solidarity”.

According to the peaceful protesters, today it is important that the Municipality of Sofia does not issue a consent notice to Lukovmarsh. “This is the ugly face of nationalism, which should not have public manifestations”, pointed out Valentina Georgieva from the Initiative Committee “Let’s stop Lukovmarsh”. She stated that it was propaganda of an extreme right-wing ideology.

This year, the “No Nazis on the Streets” march takes place a week before the Lukovmarch itself, as its organizers think it is safer. Usually, the two processions take place on the same day, a few hours apart.

“Nazism is not funny” and “Fascism is not an opinion, it’s a crime” were among other placards carried by the marchers. They say that every year they try to respond to what “the neo-Nazis in Bulgaria, pretending to be patriots, they do” – the procession known as Lukovmarsh, which this year will be on February 18 and will be combined with the commemoration of Vasil Levski – also an unpleasant coincidence.

“For us, this is sacrilege. The man who said: Brotherhood and equality for all, regardless of creed and nationality, to be equated with a general who was an open supporter of Hitler during the Second World War, an Anisemite and “for” the deportation of all Bulgarian Jews from here”, comments Ivo Stefanov.

Among the people who came out today in front of the NDK there were also foreigners. “This is international solidarity support. There are from different countries, mostly from Greece, because we think that we should be in international solidarity with each other. And when in Bulgaria, let’s say, we have a rather serious problem with neo-Nazism and the ideas that are propagated in society, we should support ourselves, because we show that we are international”, said Ivo Stefanov.
