In the province of Antwerp, visitors will no longer be allowed in hospitals from Friday, with a few exceptions. This confirms the Hospital Network Antwerp (ZNA).

“We must do everything we can to safeguard the safety of our patients and employees,” says Tom Van de Vreken, spokesperson for the Antwerp Hospital Network (ZNA). ‘Preventing the spread of the virus by visitors is one of the measures we can take to achieve this.’
The University Hospital Antwerp (UZA) also confirms that the entanglement is coming. Every hospital can foresee exceptions, as happened during the first corona wave. The UZA has announced that it is also making the necessary efforts to maximize digital contact between patients and their loved ones.
According to the hospitals, the decision was taken in the context of provincial crisis consultations, following the alarming contamination and admission figures of the last days. It is not yet clear how long the measure will apply.
Strictly follow the rules
At ZNA, exceptions are provided for maternity and pediatric wards, intensive care and palliative care. Similar exceptions would also be foreseen in other hospitals. For more practical information, the public can visit the websites of the various hospitals and hospital groups.
In the meantime, the Kempen hospitals are behind the open letter published Tuesday from the hospitals in the city of Antwerp and the surrounding area. In it, they point to the impact of the new corona wave on staff and state that the predicted doubling of the number of covid patients is particularly difficult to absorb. They therefore urge you to follow the rules strictly.
