Cleaning the toilet probably isn’t your favorite activity. However, it needs to be done regularly to keep your home clean and to avoid an unpleasant odor that you will later struggle to get rid of.
What causes the smell?
Usually the cause is very simple: the toilet has simply not been cleaned for a long time. Which, fortunately, is something that can be done quickly.
When cleaning, you should pay attention to the fact that the smell should not be caused by the toilet itself, but possibly also by the surroundings. For example, dried urine stains on the floor or carpet in front of the toilet or droplets that have fallen on the surrounding walls. Therefore, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the entire room. It is recommended to use strong detergents with some scented additives to freshen the air and replace the unpleasant smell with a fresh scent.
Don’t be afraid to use air fresheners
If you are not directly against various chemical cleaners and preparations, definitely don’t be afraid to use air fresheners or perhaps permanent cleaners that you simply hang over the edge of the toilet and will gradually release with each flush.
Even if you use this modern option, don’t forget to thoroughly clean the toilet manually from time to time. Dirt often settles under the rim of the bowl, under the toilet seat or on the bottom and simply rinsing does not remove it.
What to use to clean the toilet?
There are a number of commonly available commercial toilet cleaners on the market – they often have strong disinfecting effects and a fresh scent.
However, you can also use a homemade cleaner. All you need is baking soda, vinegar, and some dish soap. You mix everything and then you apply the mixture on the toilet, leave it to act and then scrub it thoroughly.
For cleaning the toilet it is advisable to use rubber gloves to avoid contact with bacteria and potentially more aggressive detergents, as well as a sponge, toilet brush or toilet brush. Don’t forget to clean the least accessible places, where dirt settles most often.
