No more mouth caps and home work advice starting next Saturday

From next Saturday, the mask obligation will disappear and the advice to work from home will also expire. The Hague sources report to the NOS that the one and a half meter rule will be leading for both measures.

After consultations about the corona situation between the most involved ministers, outgoing minister De Jonge already said that it “could be good” that the mouth mask obligation will be canceled next week.

One and a half meters

It is said that the mouth caps determine whether the one and a half meters away can be observed. If that is possible, no masks need to be worn anymore. This means that the mouth caps will remain in public transport for the time being. The cabinet is still waiting for advice from the Outbreak Management Team on the question of whether face masks are still necessary in supermarkets, for example. The decision will be made on this on Friday.

The one and a half meters also plays a decisive role when the advice to work from home has expired: people who, for example, work in an office, where you can keep one and a half meters away, are encouraged to go back to work. Where you can’t keep your distance, the motto remains: “Work at home.”

‘It’s going really well’

De Jonge said this afternoon that the cabinet is reassessing all measures and is examining which can be removed quickly. “It’s just going really well; vaccination is going very fast, we see that the infection figures and the hospital figures are falling tremendously. That means that we can take the next step on Friday and it will take effect a week later.”

He also said that a large part of the measures can be said goodbye, but that a part will also remain. The ‘epidemiological risk’ is weighed in this regard, as well as the probable situation in the autumn.

Earlier this week became clear already that the cabinet wants to unlock the Netherlands faster than planned. It looks like, among other things, that from June 26 the maximum number of visitors at home will be increased to eight and more guests will be allowed in restaurants. Prime Minister Rutte and Minister De Jonge will give another press conference on Friday.
