Demonstrators on the viaduct over the A7 near Marum may immediately no longer use flags, banners and flashing lights.

Demonstrations against the nitrogen policy have been ongoing on the viaduct for months, but the “outward display” of the protest distracts traffic, which can cause dangerous situations, says Mayor Van der Tuuk of the municipality of Westerkwartier.

tolerated

The protest has never been reported to the municipality, but has been tolerated for a long time, reports RTV North. The mayor emphasizes that he has not banned the protest on the viaduct, but if the demonstrators want to protest with flags, for example, they must do so elsewhere.

Last summer, two activists were on the viaduct detained for insulting officers. Waste was also dumped along the highway near the viaduct and set on fire.
