From bacteria to diet pill
That supplement is made with a bacterium that was discovered in the Netherlands in 2007. Researchers at the Belgian Université Catholique de Louvain got to work with the bacterium and tests with test subjects showed that the bacterium ensures that you can lose weight and that the risk of cardiovascular disease is reduced. Win win!
First in Belgium
The Belgian company A-Mansia, a spin-off of UCLouvain, is now considering in what form they can market the food supplement. “A capsule or tablet, that has yet to be determined,” says Professor Patrice Cani (UCLouvain). What the supplement will look like is therefore not yet certain. What is already certain is that here in Belgium we will be among the first to be able to buy the drug.
